BHEL to produce wind energy equipments
Hyderabad: BHEL will soon make an entry into the wind energy equipments manufacturing business. The company’s Ranipet (Tamil Nadu) unit, which has capabilities to manufacture equipments related to wind farms, will resume production in the near future.
It may be noted that BHEL had earlier ventured into setting up wind farms and manufacture in a small way, but could not continue as land acquisitions were a major hurdle. The company is now scouting for foreign partner for such venture.
BHEL is also looking at the possibilities of lending support to entrepreneurs to set up wind farms. It has tied up with Nordex of Denmark for the manufacture of wind electric generators of 250 kW and 600 kW. It is already supplying alternators for GE.
It has also teamed up with KEL (Kerala Electrical & Allied Engineering). One of the tasks for the joint venture company would be to manufacture wind electric generators of 600 kW.
