Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the government is investing ₹95,566 crore in Bihar's railway infrastructure, with significant upgrades underway across the state.
Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on Bihar's development, particularly in achieving 100% railway electrification. He also noted that reconstruction work for 98 railway stations is in progress.
"An investment of ₹95,566 crore is being made for the development of railways in Bihar, and the people will benefit greatly from it. Today, the Prime Minister has ensured complete electrification of the railway network in Bihar, and major reconstruction work is ongoing at 98 stations," Vaishnaw stated.
The minister further informed that station redevelopment projects were underway at three locations, along with the doubling of railway lines and the establishment of new rake points.
"Prime Minister Modi has immense respect for Bihar and is committed to its progress. Today, stations are being reconstructed at three places, railway line doubling is in progress, and new rake points are being set up at multiple locations," he added.
Meanwhile, Vaishnaw also shared updates on the expanding Vande Bharat train network. As of January 2025, 136 Vande Bharat train services with chair cars are operational across India, boasting nearly 100% occupancy.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on February 7, Vaishnaw stated that passenger train services, including Vande Bharat, operate as per a structured timetable, ensuring efficiency without disrupting other services.
During the financial year 2024-25 (up to December 2024), approximately 2.14 crore passengers traveled on Vande Bharat trains, reflecting their high demand and nearly full occupancy rates.
