Bihar's Mokama-Munger Highway Gets Green Light from Union Cabinet.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a new four-lane section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur high-speed corridor in Bihar. The project, which will connect Mokama and Munger, has a total estimated cost of ₹4,447.38 crore and is expected to be completed within three years.
The 82.4-kilometer stretch will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), as stated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The new access-controlled corridor is designed to provide safer and faster travel, reducing the commute time by 1.5 hours for both passenger and freight vehicles. It will pass through or provide connectivity to key regional cities, including Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, Munger, and Bhagalpur.
According to a press release, the road is expected to significantly boost the region's economy, particularly in the Munger-Jamalpur-Bhagalpur industrial belt, which includes an ordinance factory, a locomotive workshop, and food processing plants. Bihar's Minister for Road Construction, Nitin Nabin, noted that the project will stimulate industries and contribute to employment, growth, and development.
The project is projected to generate a substantial number of jobs, with estimates of about 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
