Biocon Foundation, the CSR arm of Biocon Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) recently, to contribute Rs. 65 crore for the construction of Hebbagodi metro station on Hosur Road in Bengaluru.

“We are pleased to partner with BMRCL for the construction of the Metro station at Hebbagodi. We are fulfilling our responsibility towards environmental sustainability by providing an alternate means of mobility for the citizens of Bengaluru,” Biocon chief Kiram Mazumdar Shaw said while signing the MoU.

The project is expected to help in easing the traffic on the busy Hosur road, according to a press release from Biocon.

In return, Biocon Foundation will request the Karnataka government to name the Hebbagodi metro station as “Biocon Hebbagodi Metro Station.”

“We are extremely happy to have the Biocon Foundation’s support for sustainable urban development and urban transport. BMRCL is committed to and is working actively to add 128 km of new metro network in the coming five years,” BMRCL managing director Ajay Seth said.

Hebbagodi metro station is part of the new line of 18.82 km from R V Road to Bommasandra (Reach 5) under Phase II of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project. The project is expected to cost Rs 5,744 crore. This metro connectivity is designed to provide a sustainable and efficient mode of transport to residents and business commuters from all parts of Bengaluru, reducing traffic congestion on Hosur Road and helping lower the environmental impact from vehicular pollution.
