Centre to Fund Full Cost of 92 Railway Overbridges in Odisha: CM
The Centre has agreed to bear the full expenditure for the construction of 92 railway overbridges across Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced recently.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that while it was initially decided that both the state and central governments would share the cost, the Railways agreed to fund the entire project following a request from CM Majhi.
Taking to X, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support, noting that the approval “for conversion of 92 Road Over Bridge works to 100 per cent Railway funding and execution by the railways as a single entity reflects the Centre's strong commitment to enhancing safety and accelerating connectivity.”
Majhi highlighted that the move will benefit the people of Odisha by enabling faster project execution, safer travel, and improved road-rail integration, calling it a “visionary initiative” that reinforces the spirit of Purvoday.
Railway Minister Vaishnaw formally communicated the decision to the Chief Minister through a letter, confirming that the Centre will cover the entire construction cost for the 92 overbridges across the state.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the Prime Minister’s consistent focus on Odisha’s development, emphasizing that prioritization of railways, roads, ports, and aviation infrastructure will accelerate the state’s overall growth.
