Chennai Metro Achieves Milestone with Erection of India's Longest U-Girder in Phase 2.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), in a collaborative effort with General Consultant AEON and contractor L&T, has successfully erected India's first-ever 33.33-meter long U-girder at Ramapuram. This significant engineering feat, part of the Phase 2, Corridor 5 (ECV-02) project stretching from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminal to Sholinganallur, marks a new milestone in Indian metro rail history.

Weighing a massive 225 tonnes, this girder represents a substantial achievement in civil engineering. Typically, steel girders are utilized in traffic junctions and U-turns. However, for this specific location in front of the L&T headquarters, CMRL opted for a longer U-girder made of concrete, setting a new record for the longest such structure among Indian metro systems.

CMRL highlighted the inherent challenges involved in this pioneering endeavor, including casting with special molds, transportation, and the precise launching of the colossal girder. The successful execution underscores the advanced technical capabilities and collaborative spirit driving the Chennai Metro's expansion.
