CM to inaugurate Maradu water treatment plant.
The water supply augmentation project of the Maradu treatment plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission will be formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister Ommen Chandy recently at the State Referral Institute Compound of Kerala Water Authority, Maradu.
Minister for Water Resources P. J. Joseph and other ministers would participate in the function.
The full commissioning of the plant with a capacity of 100 million litres a day would provide water to the city from two sources. While the Aluva plant provides the Periyar water, the Maradu plant would provide the water from the Muvattupuzha river.
The raw water pipeline of 22 kms brings water from Pazhoor in Piravam to Maradu treatment plant. The plant which had begun with an outlay of Rs. 200 crore overshot the expenses adding more than another Rs. 50 crore because of the 7-year delay in executing the project.
