CM to lay stone for underground electrical cabling project in Vizag.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to lay the foundation for the underground electrical cabling project at the Pandurangapuram sub-station in Visakhapatnam on October 9.

It is intended to have infrastructure that can withstand natural calamities like the Hudhud that had ravaged the port city in October 2014. In a teleconference on Sunday, Mr. Naidu said the goal should be to restore power supply within 24 hours after cyclone makes landfall. Keeping the devastating impact in view, the government was deploying latest technologies.

Mr. Naidu said the way the State government restored normalcy in Visakhapatnam had been widely appreciated.

Principal Secretary (energy) Ajay Jain said underground cabling of 675 km and construction of gas insulated/indoor substations were planned exclusively for Visakhapatnam at an estimated cost of ₹720 crore with the support of the World Bank.

APEPDCL CMD H.Y. Dora said the cabling system would be completed in one year and it would benefit around two lakh households.
