Coast Guard gives nod for mid-sea Shivaji statue.
After expressing reservations over security measures to be incorporated in the design of the proposed statue of Shivaji in the Arabian sea, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) last week gave its go-ahead for the project while suggesting detailed plans for securing the memorial and visitors to what has been envisaged as the world's tallest statue.
In February, the state's Public Works Department (PWD) sent a letter to the agency regarding setting up an independent unit for securing the memorial. The statue, which would be promoted as a major tourist attraction, would be considered to have a serious threat perception from terror outfits. The agency therefore suggested that the state government devise an elaborate security plan for guarding the memorial, sources said.
