Coimbatore Metro Proposal Returned Over Low Average Trip Length, Says Union Minister.

The Centre has returned the Coimbatore metro project proposal to Tamil Nadu, citing low average trip lengths, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said on Tuesday.

Regarding the proposed metro in Madurai, Sahu noted that the State government’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) indicates that current ridership levels justify a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), which is a more cost-effective solution for the city.

The minister made the remarks while responding to questions from DMK MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu in the Rajya Sabha about the two metro projects in Tamil Nadu.
