Crafts Village at Murungapakkam Nears Completion.

Construction of the Art and Crafts Village, developed by the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), at Murungapakkam is nearing completion. Tourism Minister, P Rajavelu, inspected the progress of work.

The village, being built at a cost of Rs 5.32 crore, is located on 4 acres with 24 permanent stalls, a demonstration and exhibition stall. There is facility for artisans to stay and work in the village. They can also display and sell their products, Rajavelu said.

The village is modelled on Dilli Haat Arts and Craft Village in New Delhi and would function throughout the year, the Minister said adding that it would become a major tourist spot once inaugurated. Handicraft items, terracotta, Thanjore paintings, antiques, studio pottery and hand made goods will be displayed in the village.
