Durai Vaiko Claims Trichy Denied Funds for Metro Rail Implementation.

In Parliament on Friday, MDMK principal secretary and Trichy MP Durai Vaiko criticized the Union budget for not allocating funds for the implementation of the metro rail project in Trichy, a key city in Tamil Nadu.

Durai Vaiko highlighted that, despite the preparation of detailed feasibility and project reports for the Trichy metro, the budget lacks provisions for its implementation. He also noted that, while Rs 24,932 crore has been allocated for MRTS and metro projects, significant projects such as the second phase of Chennai Metro, and the anticipated metro systems for Madurai and Coimbatore, were not included in the budget.

Vaiko questioned whether the lack of funding for these metro proposals was a result of the BJP's failure to secure victory in any Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu. He further criticized the Union budget for neglecting the needs of Tamil Nadu’s farmers, youth, poor, and women.

Additionally, Durai Vaiko pointed out that the long-standing demand for a new railway line connecting Thanjavur to Madurai via Gandarvakottai and Pudukottai had also been overlooked.
