Final survey for Metro Rail begins.

Geotechnical investigation, as part of conducting three surveys for Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project, has begun. Soil samples all along the 39 km of Metro rail proposed on three corridors are being taken under the supervision of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, consultants for preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for Metro Rail.

A total of 25 samples will be collected digging up to 30 m to analyse the strength of the soil, water table, and soil-related data like whether it hard or soft rock etc. The collection of samples is expected to be completed by the end of April, say sources. The samples will be analysed at a Jaipur-based lab.

Metro Rail is proposed on three corridors - from Madhurawada to NAD, Tatichetlapalem to Old Post Office and Gurudwara to Park Hotel.

Budgetary support

The Andhra Pradesh Government has allocated Rs.300 crore to Metro Rail in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada in the 2015-16 budget.

Traffic survey that includes household survey and topographic survey launched in January were completed.

After analysis they would be sent to the Design team of DMRC in New Delhi for preparing detailed project reports.
