"Ford Plans to Reopen Chennai Plant for Global Export Operations"

In a surprising development, U.S. automotive giant Ford has announced plans to restart operations at its Chennai plant, two years after ceasing production in India. The decision comes after a three-decade presence in the country, during which Ford initially halted local manufacturing as part of a global restructuring strategy.

Ford has submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the Tamil Nadu government, outlining its plan to use the Chennai facility for export-focused manufacturing. This move follows a high-level meeting between Ford executives and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister during his recent visit to the United States.

"We aim to tap into the manufacturing expertise in Tamil Nadu to cater to new global markets," said Kay Hart, President of Ford International Markets Group, in a statement. The plant is expected to play a crucial role in Ford’s global export strategy, marking a significant shift in its Indian operations.
