Foreign manufacturing firms in talks to locate base in AP.

Andhra Pradesh has begun to interest investors from Japan, China, Taiwan and Europe with proposals worth over ₹1,00,000 crore at various stages of discussions and two-thirds of over 900 proposals cleared by a single desk.

Over two dozen projects, with a total outlay of over ₹12,000 crore, are expected to be grounded before the end of the year and negotiations are on for some of the heavy manufacturing companies, a senior government official told BusinessLine.

The new industrial policy, various sector specific policies and the single-desk clearance system created in the industrial department have created for potential investors, the official explained.
Noticeable change

The single-desk system started by the N Chandrababu Naidu government seems to be making a difference.

So far, of the 915 applications made during the first quarter of this financial year, 614 projects have been cleared. Some 229 applications are pending seeking certain clearances and about 53 applications have been returned as they were found wanting.

The single-desk system was created to enable industrial applications to secure clearance within 21 days.

The desk facility helps applicants to secure clearances from 16 departments providing permission from about two dozen departments.
