Gadkari Greenlights Rs 1,170 Crore Allocated for Ladakh Road Development

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has given the nod for an allocation of Rs. 1,170.16 crore to fund 29 road projects in the Union territory of Ladakh. These projects will cover a state highway, major roads, and other district roads, aiming to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the region.

In addition to the road projects, Gadkari announced the allocation of Rs. 181.71 crore for eight bridges under the CRIF Scheme for the fiscal year 2023-24. This strategic move is expected to bolster the transportation infrastructure in Ladakh and facilitate smoother travel for the residents.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Gadkari emphasized that Ladakh, being the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in India, will witness a considerable improvement in connectivity, especially to its remote villages. The approved projects are anticipated to spur economic activities, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and tourism, thereby contributing to the overall infrastructural development of Ladakh.
