Gamesa forays into solar energy, commissions 9 MW project in TN.

City-based Gamesa has successfully commissioned its maiden solar power project with a capacity of 9 MW in Tamil Nadu.

'By commissioning the 9 MW turnkey solar project near Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Gamesa has successfully entered the solar territory,' the company said in a statement.

'We at Gamesa are delighted with the successful commissioning of our first ever solar project and are humbled that we got the opportunity to start this journey from Tamil Nadu.

'The support that renewable energy has received from the government with its forward thinking policy has led to consistent growth in renewable energy projects', Gamesa India CMD Ramesh Kymal said.

In July 2015, Gamesa announced its foray into the solar energy space.

The company has an installed capacity of over 2,100 MW and services more than 1,700 MW under operation and maintenance agreements.

As a wind farm developer it has been engaged in projects with capacity of over 1,300 MW, it said.
