Govt Plans New Clusters for Fly Ash Brick Units in State.

With over 2,230 entrepreneurs evincing interest in setting up fly ash units, the State Government has asked the Directorate of Industries to identify the districts where the promoters plan to start their projects.

As the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Department is encouraging start ups in cluster approach for competitiveness and value addition, it would be easier for the Government to provide land and develop common infrastructure facilities for the new units.

About 2,230 Entrepreneurs Memorandum (EM) forms were filed during a workshop on fly ash management recently, official sources said.

Instead of intervening in existing clusters, the department is keen to promote new clusters to provide required support to the new enterprises.

Encouraged by the response of entrepreneurs for setting up fly ash brick units, MSME Secretary Panchanan Dash has asked the Directorate of Industries to identify the districts where more people have shown interest to start their ventures.

The directorate has been asked to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for developing induced clusters in the districts where the applications will be more.

Once the DPR is prepared, the next step is to identify suitable land for the proposed clusters for grounding the projects, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the department has planned to set up a fly ash park in Angul district through cluster approach for value addition of the industrial waste.

As per the plan, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will provide land and develop the basic infrastructure for the fly ash park, where the ash generated at NTPC plants and other projects will be stored.

The project will be implemented through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. A common facility centre proposed at the park will collect, test and classify various raw materials and also provide basic services in terms of marketing and training to the cluster firms.
