Govt. to revise plan for second phase of mobility hub.

The government has decided to review the plan for the second phase development works of Vyttila mobility hub.

A meeting convened by Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson in Thiruvananthapuram recently resolved that amendments have to be made in the existing design after it invited criticism from various quarters for deviating from the key objectives and original plans.

The Planning Board had also suggested changes in view of the need to scale up the potential of the ambitious project, which had faced several hurdles right from its inception.

The meet discussed a proposal to entrust Kochi Metro Rail Ltd to develop the potential of water transport being planned as part of the mobility hub.

The aim is to convert Vyttila into a hub for water transport that would help provide better transport facilities to Kochiites besides the Metro Rail and existing bus station.

Experts pointed out that Vyttila water transport expansion plans could be linked to the proposed Rs. 819 crore integrated water transport project in the Greater Kochi area to be executed by KMRL with support from the German funding agency KfW.

It was also decided to strengthen the Vyttila mobility hub on the lines of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. by fast-tracking decisions.
