Gujarat gets a new, all-weather private freight terminal.

Continental Warehousing Corporation (NhavaSeva) Ltd., the flagship company of NDR Group, a multi-modal logistics player, recently, inaugurated a new private freight terminal at Sachana, Viramgam in Ahmedabad district. The Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha flagged off the train.

However, the company declined to disclose the investment incurred on the facility 'for now”.

The terminal boasts a new logistics hub with three dedicated rail sidings, capable of handling both containerised and bulk cargo. These are low-speed track sections. It is capable of handling 125–130 trains a month. Warehouses aggregating 5 lakh sq.ft., equipped with gantries and other handling equipment, offer storage options to customers.

The terminal will also house an inland container depot (ICD) to handle exim cargo with monthly cargo handling capacity of 4,500 to 5,000 TEUs (twenty-feet equivalent units). This will be the NDR Group’s second such facility to be rolled out after Hyderabad, which was commissioned in 2012. The third freight terminal is expected to be commissioned in Panipat during the first quarter of 2016-17. Two more terminals are being built in Bangalore and Chennai.

Key features of the freight terminal include three dedicated rail sidings, warehouses of 5 lakh, firm tie-up for transportation of cargo to and from the terminal, etc. Mechanised handling equipment, in-house electronic weighbridge, business centre, 24x7 surveillance, CCTVs, etc. are additional features for the convenience of customers, said N Adikesavulu Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, CWCNSL, in a statement here.

The group has presence across the country, with its network in Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and West Bengal.
