Gurgaon slow to implement court orders on expressway.

The authorities have done little to implement an order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court last year concerning the Gurgaon Expressway.

On December 11 last year, a two-judge bench had issued three directives to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), the city police and the concessionaire of the expressway, Millennium City Expressways Pvt Ltd. (MCEPL).

The court had directed the concessionaire to allow dedicated car lanes on the expressway. The second directive was issued to the city police, asking them to deploy extra personnel at the Kherki Daula toll plaza. The third order was issued to the civic body to construct a drain along the expressway to address the problem of waterlogging.

Neither has the MCG commenced work on construction of the drain to address the problem of waterlogging nor have the city police deployed extra forces so far. The concessionaire created temporary car lanes with height arrestors on January 7 that have now been broken. On more than one occasion, the height arrestors that were installed to prevent any truck or dumper to enter the dedicated car lanes have been broken.

'We installed temporary structures as we had to immediately follow the court orders. Soon, we will install permanent height arrestors,' Raghuraman S, CEO of MCEPL, said.

MCG Commissioner Vikas Gupta said, 'A permanent drainage system has to be constructed by the highway authority, NHAI, for which MCG will only be contributing financially. The plan for this project is ready. Also, we have already installed pumps at various spots along the expressway to drain out water.'

On improving security at the toll plaza, a senior police officer said that some policemen had been posted there already and that more would be posted soon
