Hooghly Riverfront beautification project submitted before union urban development ministry.
City's Hooghly River Front which looks pretty, will be extended in new year. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has submitted a Rs. 3000 crore riverfront beautification project recently. The project has been submitted before the union urban development ministry. According to plans, the riverfront which was extended from Millennium Park to Jagganath Ghat, will be extended upto Cossipore. The beautification which will start in 2015, will be undertaken in phases. In the first phase, the beautification work will be extended till Bagbazar Mayer ghat. In the second phase, the work will further be extended upto Cossipore.
This apart, the KMC will spend Rs. 45-50 crore for constructing an elevated platform along the Hooghly to enable the visitors take a breathtaking view of the river in the afternoon. Footover bridges or underpasses have also been planned for safety of the pedestrians. The KMC has plans to open restaurants along the beautified riverfront. The state government has assured the civic authorities to fund some of the beautification schemes along the Hooghly.
Atin Ghosh, member, mayor-in-council overseeing the KMC engineering department said that if need be a civic delegation will go to Delhi and visit the union urban development minister to persuade him to release funds for the project.
