Hydel tourism project linking Wayanad, Kozhikode planned.

The government is planning a Hydel Tourism Project worth around Rs.300 crore, connecting major tourist destinations in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, according to Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac.

Speaking after visiting Kakkayam and nearby areas along with Purushan Kadalundy MLA on Sunday, the Minister said the project would link the Banasurasagar Dam in Wayanad to Kakkayam and Peruvannamuzhi in Kozhikode.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project will be prepared by the end of the year, and the work will start by the beginning of next year. “The departments of forests, irrigation, tourism, and electricity will work in tandem for the project, and funds will not be an issue,” he said. The allied facilities will be set up in association with all agencies associated with the sector. The facility for tunnel tourism will be set up near Banasurasagar.

Mr. Isaac said the Green Protocol would be followed throughout the process.

“The use of plastics will be banned and recycling facilities will be encouraged. The local bodies at the respective places will be part of the initiative,” Mr.Isaac said.
