The much-awaited Inland Container Depot (ICD) is expected to come up on 55 acres of land at Kadakola near Nanjangud on the outskirts of Mysuru in sixteen months.

The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has completed its survey and is expected to hand over the possession certificate of the land to Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) in about 10 days, Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Group General Manager, CONCOR, Bengaluru, said.

Disclosing this at an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday, Mr. Sadhu said CONCOR will need sixteen months to come up with railway siding, warehouse, truck parking and an approach road, boundary wall, etc.

An ICD in Mysuru will also promote the transportation of goods through containers, thereby reducing the cost and also help the industry earn carbon credits that can be availed through rail transport.

Arjun Ranga, chairman, CII Mysuru, said an ICD in Mysuru will go a long way in helping the industries in the region. The facility for providing clearances for exports at the ICD, that will also house customs officials, will also aid industries exporting their goods from the region, he added.
