Indraprastha Gas to Invest ₹2,066 Crore in Solar Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has approved a ₹2,066 crore investment to establish a 500 MWp solar power plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, as part of its expansion into clean energy and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

The project will be developed in collaboration with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL), a state-run power entity. Under the joint venture agreement, IGL will hold a 74% stake, while RVUNL will own the remaining 26%. RVUNL will provide land for the project at its upcoming solar park in Bikaner and assist in power transmission.

“A 500 MWp greenfield solar power plant is proposed to be set up in partnership with the Rajasthan state-run Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) in Bikaner district. With an estimated capital outlay of ₹2,066 crore, the project will be financed through a mix of debt and equity and is slated for completion within 18 months from the formalization of the JV,” IGL said in a statement.

The Rajasthan state cabinet is currently reviewing the proposal, and work on the plant will begin once the approval process is completed. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months after the joint venture is formalized.

This initiative aligns with IGL’s broader plan to develop a 1 GW renewable energy portfolio over the next two to four years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
