Indus Towers to expand footprint in Karnataka.

Telecom infrastructure provider Indus Towers has plans to expand its footprint in south Karnataka region by adding more sites during the current financial year.

As against nearly 400 towers in the State of which 50 per cent was on the Mysuru-Mangaluru stretch, the company plans to erect a similar number of towers during the current year in the region, according to Mr. Subbu Iyer, CEO, Karnataka Circle, Indus Towers Ltd.

The net impact for consumers would be increased communication coverage and greater penetration of 3G network of the telecommunication service providers. Indus Towers provides infrastructure for telecom majors like Airtel, Vodaphone and Idea Network among others.

Mr. Iyer said the company plans to increase its market share in excess of 45 per cent in terms of tenants as it continues to expand its tower network and creating infrastructure that will deliver uninterrupted communication to the people of the State.'Indus Towers will play a crucial role in the formation of smart cities across the country through its delivery of infrastructure', said Mr. Iyer.

He said the towers are '4G ready' but the services have to be rolled out by the telecom service providers. In Karnataka, it has a total number of 10,296 tower sites as on 2014-15 which is up from nearly 6,900 sites during 2008-09 thus registering a growth of 47 per cent over 5 years.

He said the company's focus advanced energy solutions such as fast charging batteries as an alternative to diesel generators, has helped reduce carbon footprints significantly and reduced diesel consumption by 70 lakh litres during 2014-15 which is a reduction of around 30 per cent over the diesel consumed during the previous financial year.
