Inter-State clearance for Kaleshwaram.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has accorded inter-State clearance to the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project.

According to the Irrigation Department, the development will enable it to evacuate the Godvari water from Medigadda till the Sriramsagar project by the next kharif season.

The Maharashtra government had no objection to diversion of 160 TMC ft water to the project. Following the CWC suggestion to utilise the water through lift irrigation, the State government has increased the capacity of reservoirs from 11 TMC ft in the original design of Pranahitha-Chevella to 147 TMC ft in the redesigned Kaleshwaram Project.
