Irrigation project launched in Laghman

Jalalabad: A 16-kilomtre long canal extended from Alingar and Alishang Rivers will be reconstructed with a cost of $1.5 million and will irrigate 3,000 acres of land in Qarghi district of the eastern Laghman province officials said on Tuesday.

Abdul Wakeel Attak spokesman for the governor told Pajhwok Afghan News the work on the Nahri-i-Karim, a 16-kilomtre long 5-metre wide and 2-metre deep canal has been started by the Nawi-i-Saadat Construction Company and will be completed within one month.

Director of Water and Energy department Eng. Muhammad Saddiq said the canal that will be reconstructed with the support of the said department of the province will irrigate some 3,000 acres of land in Charbagh village and in Ghamberi desert of Qarghi district.

He added the reconstruction of the canal will have positive result and the agricultural production of these areas will increase and will benefit the people of the area.
