IT Expansion: West Bengal Targets North Bengal with New Parks.
The West Bengal government is set to significantly boost its IT infrastructure by establishing three new IT parks in the northern part of the state. This strategic move aims to capitalize on the high demand for IT space, particularly in the thriving Siliguri region.
Babul Supriyo, West Bengal's Minister for Information Technology and Electronics, announced the plans on Friday, highlighting the state's renewed focus on developing IT infrastructure in North Bengal. "There are three IT parks in Siliguri, and all of them are functional with 100 percent occupancy. It has encouraged us to set up three more IT parks in North Bengal," Supriyo stated.
Currently, West Bengal boasts 22 operational IT parks across the state, with an impressive occupancy rate ranging between 80 to 100 percent. The consistent full occupancy in Siliguri's existing IT parks signals a robust and growing IT sector in the region, prompting the government's decision to expand. This initiative is expected to create new opportunities for IT businesses and generate employment in North Bengal.
