IT park to come up at Mavoor.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said recently that the State government would set up a new IT park at Mavoor on the vacant land of the old Gwalior Rayons factory.

He was speaking after inaugurating the mass contact programme -'Karuthal'- at Malabar Christian College ground, recently.

Mr. Chandy said the project would be implemented with Public-Private Participation (PPP). Minister for Information Technology P.K.. Kunhalikutty would give the final shape to the mega project shortly, he added.

The Chief Minister said the government would go ahead with the light metro rail project considered for the city. Though there were some changes, the government would not retract from the project. A final discussion on the same would be held in Thiruvananthapuram recently in the presence of E. Sreedharan, former Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, he confirmed.

According to Mr. Chandy, the proposal of a mobility hub for the city too would be considered and the District Collector had already been asked to submit a report on the same.

Also, the construction of flyovers for Thondayad and Ramanattukara bypass roads would be completed in time as the government had already sanctioned Rs. 40 crore, he pointed out.

Referring to the government's plan for rehabilitation of fishermen families living in areas threatened by sea erosion, Mr. Chandy said the Irrigation Department would shortly begin the appropriate remedial measures shortly with an already sanctioned fund of Rs. 8.47 crore. It would come to the relief of over 400 fishermen families living on the coastline of Thoppayil, Puthiyangadi and Edakkulam, he added.

A confirmation on starting the third Central School in the city too came from the Chief Minister as part of his development plans for the educational sector. He said steps were in progress to allot five acres of land in Ulliyeri to start the third central school in the district.

Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer chaired the inaugural function. Senior government officers and people’s representatives from various Assembly constituencies were present.
