JMRC Awards Tenders to RITES for Two DPRs on Line 2 Project.

Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation Limited (JMRCL) has announced the preparation of two new Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Jaipur Metro Line 2, replacing the previous DPRs. Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has been awarded the contract to create these reports.

According to a senior JMRCL official, the new DPRs will focus on two separate stretches of Line 2. The first will cover the segment from India Gate in Sanganer to Ambabari, while the second will extend from Ambabari to Vidhyadhar Nagar. This extension was highlighted during the recent state Budget announcement by Finance Minister Diya Kumari.

The decision to shelve the earlier DPR, initially prepared by the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation Limited (DMRCL) in 2012 and revised in 2020 to reduce the estimated project cost from ₹9,500 crores to ₹4,546 crores, was driven by multiple factors. Officials noted that changes in alignment and height along the Tonk Road stretch, influenced by recent traffic projects undertaken by the state government, necessitated a fresh approach.

Additionally, the size of stations and facilities was downsized in the revised DPR, which may not adequately accommodate projected traffic growth over the next 120 years, as per metro policy standards.

“Given these considerations, we are embarking on the development of new DPRs to ensure the project's viability and alignment with long-term planning,” the official added.
