Kanpur Metro Completes Track Construction Up to Kanpur Central.

Kanpur Metro has successfully completed track construction on the ‘downline’ up to Kanpur Central, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing metro project. With this development, the route is now fully prepared on both lines from IIT to Kanpur Central under Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta).

The next step involves the installation of the third rail on the ‘downline’ to Kanpur Central, which will soon be completed. Meanwhile, construction of track slabs for the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section is progressing swiftly.

During his visit to Kanpur on Sunday, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar reviewed the progress of the project, inspecting various underground stations and meeting with senior officials. The track construction for Kanpur Metro is moving forward alongside the civil construction of stations.

After completing the track work from the ramp area at McRobertganj to Nayaganj station on the ‘downline,’ construction began in September on a 1,500-meter stretch between Nayaganj and Kanpur Central station. With this phase now finished, the metro track has been extended from IIT to Kanpur Central. UPMRC aims to launch passenger services on this stretch by January 2025.

The Kanpur Metro project uses ballast-less tracks and includes provisions for installing a third rail, along with derailment guards on the track slabs. A mass spring system is also being implemented to absorb vibrations and reduce noise.

Following his inspection, Sushil Kumar, along with senior officials, visited the Kanpur metro depot near Gurudev Chauraha. During a meeting, they reviewed the progress across various departments and issued instructions to contracting agencies to ensure the timely completion of remaining work.
