"Kerala Road Fund Board Initiates First Phase of Smart Road Tarring"

The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB), the executing agency for the Smart City project, has announced the initiation of the first phase tarring on the Killipalam-Attakulangara road.

According to a statement released by KRFB, the road formation works, including ductworks and the underground shifting of utilities, have been completed. Despite challenges such as waterlogging and soil structure, authorities are striving to expedite the project's completion. Given the road's susceptibility to waterlogging during rains, special attention is being paid to installing a proper drainage system. Work on this aspect is currently underway.

The statement further highlights KRFB's commitment to ensuring all roads are made navigable at the earliest possible time.

Earlier remarks by PWD minister PA Mohamed Riyas underscored the state's dedication to quality upgrades for various roads in the capital city, with the project's progress closely monitored. Under the KRFB's oversight, work is being conducted on 38 roads in the city.

Initially awarded to another agency, the contract for road works faced delays, prompting state government intervention to address the crisis and exclude the previous agency from the project.

In a concerted effort to ensure efficient project execution, the state government devised a comprehensive work calendar last year, prioritizing timely completion of smart road development projects in the capital city as part of the Smart City Mission initiative. Ministerial reviews and monthly meetings, alongside weekly reviews conducted by the PWD secretary, further reinforce the commitment to timely project delivery.
