Kottayam Greenfield Airport for Sabarimala Connectivity Nears 'In-Principle' Approval.

The central government is reportedly close to granting "in-principle" clearance for a new greenfield airport in Kottayam, Kerala. Sources told businessline that the project is aimed at improving access for millions of pilgrims visiting the major pilgrimage site of Sabarimala.

The proposed airport will be located at the Cheruvally Estate, near Erumeli, and will span over 2,000 acres. The development is seen as a crucial infrastructure project to handle the large influx of devotees to one of India's most significant religious destinations.
