Kurnool airport trial run successful.

A trial run of the Kurnool airport was successfully completed with a flight from Hyderabad landing at Orvakallu recently.

Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary (Energy and Infrastructure), Andhra Pradesh, said it was a matter of great satisfaction that the work had been completed in just 18 months.

“The Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone in June 2017. The trial run has been successful and we will now apply for clearances from the Director-General of Civil Aviation. We are hopeful of getting them in 2-3 months.”

“The airport will be ready for the summer schedule. The first flight will be from Kurnool to Vijayawada, and later Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru will be connected,” he said.

He said the Chief Minister would dedicate the airport to the nation on January 8. The airport was built on 1,000 acres and so far, Rs. 100 crore had been spent on it. An industrial estate is coming up near the airport.
