Kuwait Begins Construction of $3.3 Billion North Kabd Wastewater Treatment Plant; CSCEC Secures Major Contract
Kuwait has commenced construction of the $3.3 billion North Kabd Wastewater Treatment Plant, marking a major milestone in the country's water infrastructure development programme. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is executing the project under a contract awarded by Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works.
The facility will have an ultimate treatment capacity of one million cubic metres of wastewater per day, making it Kuwait's largest wastewater treatment plant. Initial operational capacity is planned at 500,000 cubic metres daily, with provision for future expansion.
The contract covers design, construction, operation and maintenance over a ten-year period. The development includes advanced wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, transmission pipelines, storage reservoirs and associated infrastructure.
The project aims to strengthen Kuwait's wastewater management capabilities, expand treated water reuse for agricultural and industrial applications, and improve environmental sustainability.
The groundbreaking represents a significant construction milestone following the contract signing in July 2026.
