Lanka to get a new model town

Colombo: A new model town for the Matara District will be built in a 172 acre plot of land in Kotawila, Weligama under a directive of Transport Minister Dullas Allahapperuma.

Allahapperuma visited the area in Kotawila, Weligama which has already been earmarked by the Government of implementing the proposed new model town plan with immediate effect.

The Minister said construction work will commence of building a comprehensive model town for Matara using effective town planing methods which are absent in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, construction work of the new hospital complex has already commenced in a plot of land of 73 acres. It is also proposed to build a Prison and an Army Camp. A Court Complex, Nurses Training School, Medicine store and Vehicle Park will also come up in the new model town.

He said the Cabinet has already approved to set up the Sports Complex on a 15-acre-land. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has allocated Rs. 83 million and the project is due to commence in the second week of August. The Minister said construction work of the Court Complex will be commenced within three months.
