Maharashtra to Upgrade MSRTC Bus Terminals into Modern ‘Bus-Ports’ with Premium Facilities.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik to initiate the transformation of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus terminals and depots into high-end ‘bus-ports’ featuring airport-like amenities and modern infrastructure. The initiative also includes setting up cashless hospitals within depots across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of an air-conditioned dormitory for MSRTC drivers and conductors at the Khopat depot in Thane, Shinde emphasized the government’s commitment to upgrading transport facilities. "Efforts are being taken to modernize MSRTC depots, ensuring they match the infrastructure and facilities of airport terminals. The goal is to provide a five-star experience to commuters," he said.

Shinde recalled his previous visit to the depot, where he found the restrooms in poor condition. "I was appalled at the state of the facility and ordered its renovation. Now, our transport minister has delivered a fully equipped dormitory with air-conditioning and bunk beds for staff. We will replicate this model at all MSRTC depots in the state," he added.

Sarnaik announced plans to establish 100-bed cashless hospitals at all depots, catering to MSRTC employees and the general public. "These hospitals will be equipped with modern healthcare facilities, similar to Aapla Davakhana clinics in Thane, Mira-Bhayander, and Mumbai," he said.

The project follows last year’s government directive for Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to allocate ₹500 crore for concreting roads within 191 MSRTC depots, further strengthening the state's transport infrastructure.
