"Mahindra & Mahindra Chooses ABB Technology for New EV Paint Facility"
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has partnered with ABB to integrate ABB's PixelPaint technology into its latest electric vehicle (EV) paint facility, announced ABB on Wednesday. This collaboration marks M&M as the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to leverage PixelPaint technology for painting contrasting roofs and pillars.
PixelPaint technology features a paint head equipped with over 1,000 individually controlled nozzles, mounted on ABB robots, as detailed in a statement by ABB. This advanced system allows for precise application of both large areas of uniform color and intricate details, all without disrupting the production line or requiring manual intervention.
Joerg Reger, Managing Director of ABB Robotics Automotive Business Line, highlighted the technology's capabilities, stating, "Our PixelPaint technology can apply large areas of uniform color as well as the tiniest details with complete accuracy, without delaying the production line or the need for manual intervention."
The deployment of PixelPaint-equipped robots in dedicated cells within Mahindra's paint shop will enable the automated application of finishes like contrasting roof and pillar treatments on their new line of electric vehicles. This automation aligns with the growing demand for customization options observed in recent years, according to ABB.
The integration of PixelPaint technology underscores Mahindra's commitment to enhancing production efficiency and meeting consumer preferences for personalized vehicle features in the burgeoning EV market.
