Maruti Suzuki Inaugurates India's Largest In-Plant Railway Siding, Aims for 35% Rail Dispatches by FY31.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) recently inaugurated India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding at its Manesar manufacturing facility. This significant infrastructure investment, totaling ₹452 crore, underscores MSIL's commitment to sustainable logistics and aims to boost the share of vehicle dispatches via railways to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31.

This new railway siding is a substantial step in MSIL's efforts to enhance its logistical efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. The company has already cumulatively dispatched 2.5 million vehicles via railways since FY14-15, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to this mode of transport. Notably, in March 2024, MSIL became the first Indian automobile manufacturer to establish an in-plant railway siding at its Gujarat production plant, setting a precedent for the industry.

The Manesar railway siding is a strategic development, registered under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. It has been integrated as a crucial component of the 126 km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), a vital transportation artery connecting Sonipat to Palwal in Haryana. This integration is expected to further streamline Maruti Suzuki's logistics operations, enabling faster and more efficient movement of vehicles across the country.
