Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a key subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL), is set to commence operations in two new coal mines within Odisha's Talcher coalfield area. These new ventures will add a combined 35 million tonnes (MT) to the company's coal reserves.

Uday A. Kaole, Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of MCL, announced during a media interaction that the Subhadra coal mine, holding a reserve of 25 MT, is slated to begin operations by the end of fiscal year 2025-26.

Following this, the Balabhadra coal mine, with an estimated capacity of 10 MT, is expected to become operational by the end of fiscal year 2029-30. This expansion underscores MCL's strategy to bolster coal production in the region.
