Metro Accelerates ₹300 Crore Kamptee Extension Project.

The Maharashtra government has instructed MahaMetro to fast-track the creation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 1.3-kilometer extension of the Nagpur Metro. This new segment, which will extend the line beyond Automotive Square to Kanhan village, is estimated to cost around ₹300 crore.

The DPR will serve as the basis for a presentation to the state government and is a critical step toward obtaining final approval for the project.

"The state government asked us to prepare a DPR for the 1.3km extension. The process has already been initiated and put on fast track," a senior MahaMetro official confirmed.

This extension will add a 13th station to the Kamptee corridor and involve the construction of a 500-meter steel viaduct over the Kanhan river. The project will increase the total length of Nagpur Metro's Phase 2 to over 45 kilometers.

The DPR for the main Phase 2 was previously prepared by RITES, which is expected to assist with the Kanhan extension as well. After the state government approves the DPR, the proposal will be sent to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for central clearance.

With over 90% of land acquisition for Phase 2 already complete, civil work is advancing steadily. The new extension is expected to enhance connectivity for residents in northern Nagpur, reduce road congestion, and bring more commuters into the city's expanding metro network.
