'Monorail's final safety test in January'

Metropolitan commissioner U P S Madan announced that final safety inspections on the 9-km monorail corridor from Wadala to Chembur will begin in the first week of January.

If everything goes well, commuters could likely take the first ride by Republic Day, sources said. But if commissioner of railway safety (CRS) G P Garg (retired) issues a directive to make changes/technical modifications in the interest of commuter safety, the officials would have to comply, which could delay the project further.
