Multi-level parking lot at Seemapuri depot gets a push.
With the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approving required amendments to the Delhi Master Plan-2021, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government intends to speed up the construction of a multi-level parking that was approved last year at the Delhi Transport Corporation’s Seemapuri depot.
The move comes at a time when the Delhi government is looking to procure more buses.
PWD to execute project
According to a senior government official, the Public Works Department (PWD) was assigned the responsibility of executing the project within two to three years after a presentation on the project, which was taken on as a pilot, was approved.
Following the required amendments to the Transport chapter of the Delhi Master Plan-2021 by the DDA this week — a move that paved the way for similar multi-level parking facilities to come up at DTC properties across the Capital — the government is now of the view that the pilot project needs to materialise soon.
“A decision regarding the future of similar facilities in Delhi will be based on an assessment of the Seemapuri project,” said the government official.
He added that efforts were underway to create a policy framework aimed at maximum utilisation of facilities that will accommodate cluster buses.
“Paucity of parking space has had an impact on adding to the fleet of DTC cluster buses as well as the procurement of new buses, which the government intends to undertake without any further delay. More buses – whether regular sized or mini – will need more space for parking and maintenance,” the official added.
