Multi-sports complex proposed.

With the response to the GVMC summer camp overwhelming it is imperative to develop sports infrastructure in the city and the State government is planning to come out with up a multi-sports complex at Gandigundam, Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said.

Addressing the valedictory of the summer camp at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, he said the State government was committed to encouraging sportspersons citing the appointment of badminton champion P.V. Sindhu as Deputy Collector.

Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said in the 20-day camp coaching was given in 45 sports and games to 7564 students. About ₹50 lakh was spent and breakfast and T-shirts provided to students. Coaches were paid honorarium. Various sports associations and 300 coaches were associated with the conduct of the camps in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam.

Students conducted an impressive march past. Cultural programmes were staged.

MLAs PGVR Naidu and Palla Srinivasa Rao, MLC P V N Madhav, former MLA S A Rahaman and Additional Commissioner (General) M V VS Murthy participated.

GVMC Director (Sports) Y. Srinivasa Rao conducted the programme.
