Websol Energy Systems Approves Major Capacity Expansion.

Websol Energy System Limited has approved a massive ₹3,000 crore investment to expand its manufacturing capacity for solar cells and modules by 4 GW each, the company announced today. The expansion will be executed through a wholly-owned subsidiary and will be completed in two phases.

This new plan will add to Websol's existing manufacturing footprint in Falta, West Bengal, which currently includes a 600 MW solar cell line and a 550 MW solar module line. A second 600 MW solar cell line is scheduled to become operational in October 2025, bringing the company's total solar cell capacity to 1.2 GW.

Multi-Phase Expansion Plan

The new expansion will significantly increase the company's production capabilities to meet the growing demand for solar energy in India.

  Phase III: A 2 GW solar cell line and a 2 GW solar module line are planned to be operational by June 2027.

  Phase IV: Another 2 GW solar cell line and a 2 GW solar module line are set to be completed by June 2028.

  
  

The total investment for these two phases will be funded through a mix of internal accruals and loans from financial institutions. The new solar cell lines will utilize advanced Topcon technology.

Management Commentary and Stock Split

Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System, said the expansion marks a significant milestone in the company's growth journey. "From being one of India's earliest solar cell and module manufacturers, we are now moving into a multi-gigawatt phase of expansion," he said.

Agarwal added that the expansion will boost the company's solar cell and module capacities to 5.2 GW and 4.5 GW respectively by 2028. This will allow Websol to play a crucial role in helping India achieve its goal of 280 GW of solar power by 2030.

The company's Board of Directors also approved a 1:10 stock split, which will be subject to shareholder approval at the Annual General Meeting on September 29, 2025.
