Nabard sanctions 39 irrigation project in Maharashtra

Pune:> Nabard has sanctioned Rs 475.72 crore under RIDF - XIII to Maharashtra for developing 39 minor irrigation projects in the State.

These projects would create additional irrigation potential to the extent of 23,704 ha and generate recurring and non-recurring an employment of 17.78 lakh man days and 285.91 lakh mandays respectively.

These projects on one side would augment the production and productivity of the agricultural crops and facilitate rural people to take up allied agricultural activities for self-employment.

The highest priority has been given to the six distressed districts of Vidarbha region under the Prime Minister’s package.

Out of the 39 projects, 22 are located in six distressed districts of Vidarbha region of which two projects are in Akola, six in Amravati, three in Buldhana, two in Wardha, two in Washim and seven in Yavatmal districts while the remaining are in Latur and Beed districts.

These projects in the distressed districts would create additional irrigation potential of 17,874 ha and generate recurring and non-recurring employment to the extent of 13.41 lakh man days and252.79 lakh man days respectively. The projects are expected to be completed by March 2011.
