Naidupet dump yard to get waste-to-energy plant.

The dumping yard at Naidupet is suited for the waste-to-energy plant, a visiting delegation of engineers from Singapore said recently.

The Singapore tem, which visited the site, later told Municipal Commissioner K. Kanna Babu that a waste-to-energy incineration plant would be soon established at the dumping yard.

Earlier, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, GMC, K. Yesudas, executive engineer, solid waste management P. Venkata Rao, the team visited the dumping yard at Naidupet.

The Guntur Munucipal Corporation (GMC) generates close to 200 Metric Tonnes of solid waste on a daily basis and much of it is dumped at the Naidupet yard without any recycling.

Despite the civic body had in place a door-to-door collection system of garbage, but has been lagging on the recycling front.

The GMC which had earlier taken part in Clean City Championship would be the second civic body after the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, to start a waste-to-energy plant.

The move comes at a time when scientific disposal of solid waste has been gaining ground and more municipalities have started adhering to Municipal Solid Waste Management & Handling Rules Act formulated by Central Government in the year 2000.
