New Delhi-Noida link bridge over Yamuna is test of Delhi Metro's strength.

With a span of 574m and barely 85m from Okhla barrage, a Metro bridge coming up on Yamuna, which will connect Delhi with Noida, is one of a kind. And what makes the bridge unique is the challenging working condition. The bridge, fourth one to be built on the river, will come up between Kalindi Kunj and the Okhla Bird Sanctuary Metro station soon.

Delhi Metro could carry out construction work only during dry winter months since water is released from Okhla barrage every few hours. 'The working hours available were mostly confined to dry winter months. During monsoon, it was practically impossible to carry out work consistently due to frequent release of water from the barrage,' said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) spokesman.

He said that the water is released at very short notices, at times every three to four hours and the area has to be immediately evacuated. 'This is how work is being completed on the bridge,' the official added.
