"New DFCCIL MD Focuses on Expanding Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals"

Praveen Kumar, the newly appointed Managing Director of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL), has highlighted the importance of focusing on the development of Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals to drive the company's business growth. Kumar, who succeeded Ravindra Kumar Jain on July 31, emphasized that maximizing freight revenue and expanding business potential will be central to his agenda.

In his statement, Kumar stressed, “We must explore all avenues to increase freight revenue and prioritize business development. Expanding the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals will be key to achieving this goal.”

Under the ‘Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal Policy’ introduced in December 2021, the government aims to establish 100 such terminals by the end of 2024-25. DFCCIL has begun issuing tenders for the development of these terminals on private land and along both the western and eastern dedicated freight corridors.

The terminal development is open to a range of stakeholders including logistics service providers, real estate developers, third-party logistics firms, warehousing investors, container train operators, and manufacturers. Key features of the policy include a simplified application and approval process, allowing both private and state-owned operators to set up common user facilities or terminals, as well as relaxed land license fees.
